| 内容記述 | Neighbourhood Houses, referred to as Settlement Houses, are non-profit organizations that serve local residents, addressing needs specific to the neighbourhood. Neighbourhood Houses “function as central hubs for social programs and services and for community development and activities that strengthen neighbourhoods. They are places where everyone is welcomed, diversity is respected and cultures and beliefs are celebrated” (Association of Neighbourhood House of Greater Vancouver). With changing demographics in municipalities, many programs and services cater to immigrants and newcomers according to their needs. The Gordon Neighbourhood House taken up in this paper is in the Vancouver West End area. The social programs and services of 27 (2010/9) are carried out in the Gordon neighbourhood house and not only a local resident but a foreign students, a college and a university students, and the temporary residents provide service as volunteer staffs. In order to perform demand and supply of social services smoothly, a support organization of each field has been made. Also in Canada, the support organization for social services is divided according to the field in many cases. However, offer of the social services for all the people in the Gordon neighborhood house can be estimated to be unique in Canada. The measure of the Gordon neighbourhood house has been realized by putting on effort at formation of the local community rather than the height of the quality of service or a program. |
